This is why West Papuans reject Special Autonomy & demand a Referendum

Below are two very powerful statements made by West Papuan leaders from the Papuan People's Council (MRP) and the Papuan Tribal Council (DAP) calling on the Indonesian government to release all the Papuan peaceful protesters now in police custody since the demonstrations of 3-13 March 2008 and rejecting the new law (PP 77/2007) which bans all use of so-called "separatist symbols".

has called on the MPR, the DPRP and the provincial administration of West
Papua to stop talking all the time about PP77, the presidential decree
about regional symbols.

APPEAL FOR AN INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE

Catholic & Protestant churches, Muslims, Hindus & Buddhists together made this appeal:

WE

1. declared West Papua as ‘Land of Peace’ on the 5th February 2002.
2. made an appeal to the international community to have ‘an honest and peaceful dialogue similar to Aceh peace process. The dialogue will be mediated by a neutral third party who is approved by both the native West Papuans and the Indonesian government. This appeal was made on the 3rd May 2007 in a report from (various) churches about the failure of the Special Autonomy Law no 21, Year 2001.
