Papuan Leaders Tell Supporters to Abstain from Vote
Prominent Papuan independence leader Benny Wenda has called on all “citizens of West Papua” to boycott the upcoming legislative and presidential elections because they are not Indonesians.

“As citizens of West Papua of the Melanesian race, we refuse to participate in the April 9 elections, which are Indonesia’s celebration of democracy,” Wenda said in a statement released to the Jakarta Globe.

SUNGAILIAT – Dewa Made Juniarta Sastrawan, Director of Western European, Indonesian Foreign Affairs stated that Papua separatist movement in the United Kingdom which is sponsored by Free West Papua Campaign (FWPC) is the biggest threat to the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. “FWPC separatist movement actively campaigns and builds international support for independence of West Papua. They do this by discrediting Indonesian government”, Dewa Made Juniarta Sastrawan said this when speaking to a seminar in Sungaliat, this Wednesday. The seminar entitled: Development efforts to improve Indonesian diplomacy in handling the increase of West Papua issues abroad.
