Benny Wenda of the Free West Papua campaign complained of collusion between the Indonesian rulers of West Papua and Rio Tinto.
“This company is operating in the middle of a genocide,” said Wenda, who explained how the West Papuans are unable to speak out.

One question was asked about the nature of the housing construction market in China, so important to Rio Tinto’s profits.

In West Papua, US company Freeport-McMoran is in the cross-hairs.
JAKARTA, Indonesia — Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a military convoy traveling along a road leading to the American-owned Freeport-McMoran Gold and Copper mine in Indonesia’s restive West Papua province Wednesday, the latest in a series of shootouts that have rocked the area since July.
