It’s been revealed that the Indonesian Embassy in London asked the British Foreign Office to instruct the Oxford town council to not to fly the Papuan Morning Star flag on their town hall last December 1st.

As a sign of solidarity with the West Papuan people’s struggle for self determination, Oxford’s mayor allowed the Morning Star flag to be flown on that date which marks Papua’s declaration of independence in 1961.

In Indonesia, flying the Morning Star flag is a crime punishable by prison.

The Indonesian Embassy’s request was disclosed to West Papuan campaigners during a meeting with British Foreign Office officials in London.

The Embassy’s request was refused by British government officials.
