West Papuan Independence Day Demonstrations outside the Indonesian Embassy,
Grosvenor Square, London (2003 – 2008)

2003

The annual demonstration first took place on December 1st 2003, with one man and the Morning Star flag outside the Indonesian Embassy.

2004

Although their numbers were small, the message outside the Embassy in 2004 was loud and clear.

2005

In 2005, numbers had grown significantly, and the demonstrators carried banners criticising not just the Indonesian occupation, but also the British company BP, for doing business with the Indonesian occupiers in West Papua.

2006

On Independence Day in 2006, West Papuans living in the UK and the Netherlands were joined by what seemed to be an ever growing number of demonstrators...

2007

...and in 2007, more people than ever before gathered outside the Indonesian Embassy for ‘the big one’. They sang, chanted and carried flags and banners, calling for freedom for West Papua.

After the rally outside the Embassy, the demonstrators marched on to the headquarters of BP and Rio Tinto, to protest the activities of these companies in the middle of the genocide in West Papua:

2008

?????????

This Independence Day, we all have the opportunity to be part of the largest West Papuan solidarity demonstration to date. We can make our voices heard, in honour of those who live under the spectre of oppression. Join us outside the Indonesian Embassy in London on Monday 1st December, to call for justice for West Papua.
