You are invited to an evening event in Reading on Friday 17th October 2008 to celebrate with the people of West Papua, their culture and indomitable human spirit in the face of oppression.

The people of West Papua have suffered years of human rights violations, discrimination and abuse at the hands of Indonesia. This event is an opportunity to hear their story from Caroline Lucas MEP, leader of the Green Party and from West Papuans themselves, including Chief Benny Wenda, Chair of the Koteka Tribal Assembly, as we join the West Papuan Mambesak dancers and other performers in an evening of dancing, singing, story-telling and theatre.

The evening is being hosted by Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC) as the opening event of the Reading International Festival. It will begin at 7 pm and will take place in the Main Hall at RISC, 35-39 London Street, Reading, RG1 4PS. Admission is free.

We anticipate considerable media interest in this meeting. The speakers and performers will be available at 6.30 p.m. for photographs and interviews and you would be very welcome to join them at this time.

We look forward to welcoming you on 17th October.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Sean V. O'Leary,
