{"id":1618,"date":"2015-10-19T18:59:13","date_gmt":"2015-10-19T18:59:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infopapua.org\/?p=1618"},"modified":"2015-10-19T18:59:13","modified_gmt":"2015-10-19T18:59:13","slug":"te-vaka-compose-a-new-free-west-papua-song","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infopapua.org\/?p=1618","title":{"rendered":"Te Vaka compose a new Free West Papua song"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Legendary Pacific band Te Vaka have composed an incredible new Free West Papua song as part of their latest album Amataga. <strong><em>Papua I Sisifo\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is a true freedom song from the heart of the South Pacific and it means so much to all West Papuans, hearing such a powerful song from such a renowned and incredible Pacific band.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tevaka.com\/listen\/s\/papua_i_sisifo\">Listen to the Free West Papua song, \u201cPapua I Sisifo\u201d on Tevaka\u2019s website here<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>This song \u00a0features the voice from a West Papuan freedom fighter featured in the award winning documentary film \u201cForgotten Bird of Paradise\u201d and also features strong, emotive lyrics such as<br \/>\n<em>\u201cWest Papua, we\u2019re with you now, freedom, freedom now.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Te Vaka\u00a0<\/strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Te Vaka is one of the Pacific\u2019s best known bands and fuses traditional and contemporary beats and styles from right across the Pacific \u00a0to create music that resonates with all Pacific islanders.<br \/>\nThey are also the band which is\u00a0playing\u00a0the music for Disney\u2019s new animation film \u201cMoana\u201d which is to be\u00a0set in the South Pacific and will be\u00a0released\u00a0next year.<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"Apple-interchange-newline\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2095  colorbox-2094\" src=\"http:\/\/freewestpapua.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Te-Vaka.jpg\" alt=\"Te Vaka\" width=\"464\" height=\"291\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 2012, Olivia\u00a0Foa\u2019i from Te Vaka performed alongside West Papuan Independence Leader Benny Wenda and many of the South Pacific\u2019s most well known musicians, singing Sir George Telek\u2019s famous \u201cFree West Papua\u201d song.
