If you are in the UK you can click<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writetothem.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>to contact your MP direct.<\/p>\n<p>The ultimate aim of the Free West Papua Campaign is to give the people of West Papua the right to choose their own destiny \u2013<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a title=\"History of West Papua\" href=\"http:\/\/freewestpapua.org\/info\/history-of-west-papua\/\" target=\"_blank\">a right they were promised, but denied, in 1969<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To do this we are building political support all over the world and in 2008 launched the International Parliamentarians for West Papua \u2013 a growing group of politicians committed to supporting the right of West Papuans for self-determination.<\/p>\n<p>In the UK, we need as many MPs\u00a0 as possible to get involved in this crucial issue. So we are asking our supporters to write to their MPs and ask them to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Raise the issue of West Papua with the British government,\u00a0and ask them to support a new referendum on freedom for the Papuan people.<\/li>\n<li>Ask the government to\u00a0pressurise Indonesia to stop human rights abuses\u00a0in West Papua, and to release political prisoners.<\/li>\n<li>Ask the government to\u00a0stop arms sales to Indonesia, on the grounds that British-made weapons are being used to terrorise Papuan civilians.<\/li>\n<li>Join the\u00a0All-Party Parliamentary Group on West Papua,\u00a0which has been formed by Andrew Smith MP.<\/li>\n<li>Join the\u00a0International Parliamentarians for West Papua,\u00a0which is an international group of politicans who support the right of self-determination for West Papuans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please inform us of any response you received by e-mail to office@freewestpapua.org<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Build political support Contact your political representative and encourage them to join the International Parliamentarians for West Papua (IPWP) if they haven\u2019t already.
