{"id":1179,"date":"2015-06-18T18:05:12","date_gmt":"2015-06-18T18:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.infopapua.org\/?p=1179"},"modified":"2015-06-18T18:05:12","modified_gmt":"2015-06-18T18:05:12","slug":"over-150000-west-papuans-sign-a-pro-ulmwp-petition-amid-crackdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.infopapua.org\/?p=1179","title":{"rendered":"Over 150,000 West Papuans sign a pro ULMWP petition amid crackdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have just received this 40 minute video uploaded by a West Papuan activist showing the names of so far of over 157,427\u00a0West Papuans who in just a few weeks have all signed a petition supporting the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) representing them in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"PETISI DUKUNGAN RAKYAT PAPUA UNTUK ULMWP MENJADI ANGGOTA  RESMI MSG MEWAKILI RAKYAT PAPUA\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_yQp4t-uquI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This petition was signed by over 100% more West Papuans than Indonesia\u2019s sham so called \u201cAct of Free Choice\u201d in 1969 which consisted over only 1,026 West Papuans being handpicked by the Indoensian government and forced at gunpoint to vote for Indonesian rule.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"cboxElement\" href=\"http:\/\/freewestpapua.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Papua-for-MSG-600x3601.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1584 colorbox-1582\" src=\"http:\/\/freewestpapua.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Papua-for-MSG-600x3601-320x192.jpg\" alt=\"The main petition post in the capital city of West Papua before it was destroyed by the Indoensian police \" width=\"382\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There has been a brutal crackdown on West Papuans showing support for the ULMWP and the main petition post in the capital city was destroyed by the Indonesian police. There has also been a ban on organising demonstrations, protests and Free West Papua gatherings with over 400 people arrested last month. It was therefore very difficult for activists to organise signings and most of them happened in a few major West Papuan towns.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"cboxElement\" href=\"http:\/\/freewestpapua.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/11393077_1435427376767159_447611827819008777_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1585 colorbox-1582\" src=\"http:\/\/freewestpapua.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/11393077_1435427376767159_447611827819008777_n-320x240.jpg\" alt=\"The main petition post being destroyed by the Indonesian police \" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, in just a few weeks over 150,000 West Papuans have so far actively signed the petition,\u00a0showing strong evidence for the West Papuan people\u2019s desires for the ULMWP to represent them within the MSG.<\/p>\n<p>Had this have been a free, safe and fair vote held all over West Papua then we are fully confident that by far the vast majority of West Papuans would have signed it and expressed their desires to come back to the Melanesian family of the MSG.<\/p>\n<p>We believe that one day West Papua will finally be a free Melanesian nation once again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have just received this 40 minute video uploaded by a West Papuan activist showing the names of so far of over 157,427\u00a0West Papuans who in just a few weeks have all signed a petition supporting the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) representing them in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG).
