West Papua message comes to Bournemouth, England

On 12 June 2008, Benny Wenda and Richard Samuelson gave a talk in Bournemouth (on the south coast of England) hosted by the Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch Amnesty International group.

The subject of the talk was the Human Rights situation in West Papua.

Benny Wenda said:

"The People of West Papua need your help because their voice is never heard in the outside world... but today you can hear their voice, crying for freedom and justice".

"My People are slaves in our own Land. There is no freedom and democracy. We are not free even to peacefully raise our own flag or to hold a peaceful protest to tell the World that we Papuans don't want to be part of Indonesia."

"Until today, the Indonesian military keeps on torturing, raping, intimidating, terrorising, imprisoning and killing West Papuans -- and no-one knows about it. The Indonesian soldiers who do this to my People are never put on trial. They just get promoted to a higher post in the Indonesian military."

"We need you to help and be our channel to tell the people here in Bournemouth and all the United Kingdom what is happening in my country, West Papua."
