15th October 2009

Dear Mr Ambassador

One year ago today history was made when the International Parliamentarians for West Papua was launched in the British Parliament. I was joined by politicians including Andrew Smith, Lord Harries and Lembik Opik.

On that same day, thousands of Papuans took to the streets in West Papua, calling for independence. Two Papuan men, Buchtar Tabuni and Seblon Sambom were later arrested for their involvement in the peaceful demonstration and were put them in prison for 2 and 3 years.

Their imprisonment is an attack on the British political system, and in recent months a number of high profile British politicians including Clare Short (the former International Development Secretary) have joined up to IPWP and expressed their determination in bringing about freedom for the people of West Papua.

Every day when I travel around the United Kingdom , people ask me why there is no peace and democracy in West Papua. People ask me why Indonesia put people in prison for 15 years for raising the West Papuan flag.
My answer to them is simple. That in West Papua there is no peace, there is no justice and there is no democracy. Only through freedom will we Papuans be able to share the freedoms that everyone else takes for granted.

Today we stand here with the spirit of the people of West Papua. We stand outside your embassy telling the people of the United Kingdom of the evil acts that your country are committing in West Papua.
We are telling people to join the fight for freedom in West Papua.

Mr Ambassador, one day West Papua will be FREE. Just like East Timor is FREE.

Everyday the support is growing for freedom in West Papua. Soon, the international community will be forced to act against Indonesia, just like they were 10 years ago in East Timor.

One day we Papuans will live freely in our own land. Until that day comes we will continue our struggle. We will never stop. Never

Papua Merdeka. Free West Papua

Yours Sincerely
