Dear Friend of West Papua

We regret to inform you of more disturbing developments from West Papua
including further military sweeping operations in the central highlands,
and reports of escalating prisoner abuse in Abepura Prison.
Several high profile political prisoners were denied drinking water for
4 days between the 5-9th October. These prisoners are now in need of
medical attention which is being refused by the prison.
We are urging people to please contact Theo Ayorbaba, the Head of
Abepura Prison to remind him of his responsbilites to respect
international law with regard to prisoner treatment.
His telephone number is +62811489085
The phone number for Abepura Prison is +62967581705

Please also telephone the Indonesian Embassy in London +442074997661 and
your local MP

Last month horrific images emerged showing the impact of Indonesian
military sweeping operations in the central highlands, with villages
burnt to the ground around Bologame, leaving hundreds of people now in
hiding in the jungle.

EMBASSY DEMO
We will be holding a demonstration outside the Indonesian Embassy in
London this Thursday 15th October from 2 till 4pm.
Please come and join us if you can - Grosvenor Square, London, W1K 2HW
(closest tube Marble Arch / Bond Street)

POSTCARD CAMPAIGN
There has been a phenomenal response to our postcard campaign, with over
70,000 postcards now having been delivered to the Indonesian Embassy in
London from people calling on the Indonesian authorities to enter into
meaningful dialogue with the Papuan people and to release all political
prisoners.
If you would like to receive postcards and / or leaflets to distribute
to friends, family and work colleagues, please get in touch to
office@freewestpapua.org

INTERNATIONAL PARLIAMENTARIANS FOR WEST PAPUA
We're delighted that several new politicans including the former British
Secretary of State for International Development Clare Short, have
signed up to a statement calling on the Indonesian Government to release
both Buchtar Tabuni and Sebby Sambom. These men have been jailed by the
Indonesian authorities for making a peaceful demonstration in support of
the UK Parliament launch of IPWP.
Please lobby your local Parliamentarian to sign up to the declarations
at www.ipwp.org
